SCHOOL?
that this will help improve road safety, encourage walking and make it safer for
children travelling to and from the school and pre-school. The proposed crossing
would also provide a crossing facility at all times of the day to members of the
wider community.
If a feasible design, that has been independently road-safety audited, can be
presented to KCC, with the assistance of the Parish Council (were they to support
the proposal), they may become more supportive. There is no guarantee that KCC
will support any proposals, and they may still be unwilling to allocate any funding
even if they do agree with a scheme in principle. If KCC are receptive towards
a scheme there are other funding avenues that can be explored, including the
contributions property developers are sometimes obliged to make to help
mitigate the impact of their new sites on the local highway network. If other
sources of funding are identified the changes would still require KCC’s approval,
as the highway authority.
To date, the design and development of the proposals have been produced by
volunteers from the community. The next steps would include commissioning
traffic and pedestrian surveys, and a road safety audit. These would be carried
out by an engineering consultancy company. The working group wants to gain the
opinions of parents, local residents and businesses during the formative stage of
design, to ascertain whether proposed improvements here would receive support
before sourcing and committing any funding to carry out these next steps.
Please do take the time to complete the online survey to provide your opinion on
the proposals prior to the deadline of 31 July 2025 using the link below. This is an
online survey, however paper copies are available to be collected from - and can
be returned to - the school office. An update will be shared with the community
once the results of the consultation have been analysed, and this will include
setting out what (if any) next steps will be taken.
